Operator Econet Wireless Zimbabwe says it has launched Econet AI, which is described as a dedicated standalone business unit created to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption across the country’s economy.

The initiative was unveiled late last week alongside a portfolio of products and services aimed at driving rapid AI integration across sectors, with solutions tailored for both corporate organisations and individual users.

As part of the rollout, Econet AI will provide customers with six months of free access to Google Gemini starting in May. The multimodal AI platform supports the generation and processing of text, images, audio, video, and code, positioning it as a key enabler for productivity and digital innovation.

The new unit has also introduced Cassava AiCloud, a high-performance computing platform powered by Nvidia GPUs, designed to support enterprises running advanced, data-intensive workloads.

The infrastructure is hosted at the [Cassava AI Factory](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-technology/data-centres-networks/18234-africa-s-first-ai-factory-on-the-way-says-cassava.html?highlight=WyJjYXNzYXZhIiwiZmFjdG9yeSIsImZhY3RvcmllcyciXQ==) in South Africa, the only facility of its kind on the African continent.

Cassava Technologies is part of the wider Econet Group/Global which also owns Econet Wireless Zimbabwe. It is rapidly building an African AI ecosystem, notably through expanding data centre capacity, via its subsidiary Africa Data Centres. It is also [building its own AI factories](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-technology/data-centres-networks/19076-cassava-technologies-to-build-five-african-ai-factories.html?highlight=WyJjYXNzYXZhIiwiZmFjdG9yeSIsImZhY3RvcmllcyciXQ==) through an alliance with Nvidia, and building sovereign cloud solutions for African governments.

TechAfrica News says Econet AI has evolved over the past five years as an internal innovation hub within the Econet Group, where artificial intelligence has been deployed across operations to improve customer experience, enhance network performance, and strengthen business decision-making.
